About

Kim's the Gemini…her band brings the Fire

Our brand of retro roots rock will take you where velvet meets snakeskin, leather meets lace, and muscle cars meet mountains.

When you experience Gemini Fire, right away you’ll hear shades of the intricate melodic rock of the 70s such as HEART, April Wine, Boston, Peter Frampton, and the Pretenders, as well as sounds that will remind you of 80s denim and leather hairbands such as Bon Jovi, the Scorpions, Lee Aaron, and Whitesnake.

Two years ago, four people from very different backgrounds came together in the Yukon's capital with a common goal of creating a classy, vintage-sounding yet original band. And we've made our mark pairing soft and sensual with straight-up badass flash, pairing edgy power chords with melodic sensibilities and poetic lyrics.

Our songs are full of imagery from our wild northern surroundings, paired with themes of beauty, courage, confidence, flirtatiousness and longing. There's rebelliousness, restlessness, and even a touch of Viking mythology thrown in there.

We play local venues, festivals and events all over the Yukon and northern BC, including recent opening spots for Canadian rock artist Nick Gilder, and the Snotty Nosed Rez Kids.

The band has released 3 rockin' new singles this summer and we look forward to bringing our music to some southern audiences.

Kim Rogers

Songwriter, Vocals, Guitar

 Igniting the Spark

Originally from Peterborough Ontario, Kim is a woman of a certain age who's first loves were guitars and classic rock. She brings an authenticity to her retro style that comes from growing up with the melodic rock giants of the 70s. It was bands that offered a Yin/Yang duality of both acoustic and electric sounds who most inspired the musical passion in Kim that has no signs of fading.

A founding member of Yukon Women in Music in the 1990s, she has years of tenure as a well-known singer, songwriter and recording artist in various collaborations. Kim has self-produced several recordings, including a musical pair-up with Toronto recording artist and producer Rick Santers. Her songwriting is full of images from the natural world with equal parts sass, vulnerability, adversity, defiance, and triumph with vocals that are velvety smooth, clear, and strongly melodic.

Kim's the torch that leads Gemini Fire with eagle vision, but behind the spotlight is an introvert who cherishes solitude, curling up with artwork, books and writing projects. In true Gemini duality she'll take you from a slow burn to a full-on bonfire with the strike of a match.

Frank Jacques

Lead Guitar

Setting Songs Ablaze

Francois (Frank) Jacques is the youngest flicker in the Gemini Fire flames, and one of the band's two Aries. He brings guitar spark and sizzle to all our live shows.

Born in ‘la Belle Province’ with 15 years of performance flash and flair, he pushes creative boundaries fearlessly. His stage presence has a confidence that commands attention whether he’s shredding solo or creating atmospheric backdrops. Frank is our band mascot, and entertainer extraordinaire with a killer sense of humour that keeps our spirits up.

Always in high demand, when Frank isn’t playing in two or three bands, teaching or sitting in as a session player he loves taking road trips and kicking back with campfires and good pals.

Shannon Gladwin of Gemini Fire

Shannon Gladwin

Bass, Harmonies

Feeding the Flame

Shannon Gladwin is a secret ingredient and integral part of Gemini Fire, where she adds warmth to our sound by keeping the low-end steady.  A prairie girl from Alberta, she brings solid experience and dedication to our band with her tasteful bass grooves and spirited harmonies.

Shannon is a sought-after player who's lent her talents to several Whitehorse bands and studio projects. Fiery but cool-headed, she holds her own onstage with smoldering force.

Offstage, Shannon is an Aquarian free spirit who draws inspiration from the beauty of the Yukon, where getting blissfully lost in the woods is an escape that keeps her grounded.

Neil Byblow of Gemini Fire

Neil Byblow

Drums

Heating the Beat

From Durban, Manitoba, Neil Byblow is another one of our fiery Aries. He got his first drumkit at 12, and toured with a Ukrainian folk troupe which sparked his interest to go further. A move to Winnipeg landed him in the nineties indie band See Monkey, who he recorded with and appeared in their Much Music video.

Neil hit the Yukon music scene in the late nineties and has performed with numerous types of bands all over the north as well as doing tours in Amsterdam, India, and opening for Nazareth, April Wine, and Sweeney Todd.

A quietly humble but mighty force in the band, Neil has a flawlessly dependable and straight-forward rock approach to his playing that suits our sound perfectly. Neil delivers both the kindling and the fuel that makes him the heartbeat of Gemini Fire. Offstage Neil brings fire to the ice as a hockey defenseman.
